One of the best of the non-green spreading junipers, Parson's Juniper offers grayish blue-green foliage on a prostrate, spreading form. Fill between larger shrubs, spread along slopes or cascade over walls with this versatile groundcover. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Control weeds until the plants have filled in. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer. This dense, evergreen shrub has a soft texture with bluish-green foliage. Its upright, feathery branches grow in a dome-like shape 2-3 feet tall. Its ground-hugging attribute makes it ideal as a hedge, ground-cover, screen, and windbreak. Often used as a bonsai and near sea-side areas. This low-maintenance evergreen needs a regular water schedule to ensure the growth of a mature root system. After the mature root system is established, watering is needed occasionally, except during a drought, watering is needed regularly. Pruning to desired shape is recommended only at early stages of growth to encourage branching. Pruning older branches may not encourage new growth. Parsoni is excellent for use as a ground cover and erosion control on large to small slopes and embankments. It can be planted in small groups, as a border in landscape beds and as a low-growing foundation shrub. Due to its high salt tolerance, Parsoni is often used as a ground cover in seaside areas.
