Maui Yellow Ixora is a compact, tropical evergreen shrub. It is covered with large, leathery, dark green elliptical leaves. It produces an abundance of round flower clusters comprised of lots of four-petaled blooms with long floral tubes. The brightly colored flowers are sunny golden- to orange-yellow and are attractive to butterflies. Plants will tolerate full sun but do much better with some shade in the afternoon. Maybe that's why one of the common names it goes by is Flame of the Woods. Where hardy outdoors, Yellow Maui Ixoras heavy branching and compact habit make it an ideal choice for hedges, borders, and foundation plantings in partially shaded locations, and is also lovely in a pot as a houseplant. Sunny yellowish orange ball-shaped flower clusters decorate the glossy, dark green foliage of this tropical shrub, originally from Hawaii. Blooms heavily during warm months, then off-and -on through cooler weather. A dwarf, evergreen shrub with small leaves resembling boxwood and a shrubby sprawling look that thrives in high heat and high humidity. Maui Ixora or Ixora coccinea is a sun loving shrub that can grow up to 10'+, but is very easily hedged or pruned to a smaller size.They bloom year-yound and prefer full sun to part shade. This plant is moderately drought and salt tolerant. Flower clusters can last for 6-8 weeks and are extremely showy. Use for privacy or accent hedging. This flowering shrub brightens up its surroundings all summer long with a constant display color. Indoors, place Maui Yellow Ixora in a spot that receives over six hours of sunlight daily. If you keep your ixora outdoors, morning sunlight is best as intense afternoon light can burn the leaves of this flowering plant. Jungle Flame (yes, this plant has many names!) is also an excellent pollinator plant attractive to bees and butterflies! Ixora requires moist soil during the growing season.
