Azalea Coronado Red - Live Plants - Red Flowering Rhododendron Shrub
This new series offers multi-season bloom, evergreen foliage, and exceptional cold hardiness. Showy deep-red blooms cover this azalea springtime and again in fall. An excellent choice for borders, mass planting, or containers. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Provide well drained soil, rich in organic matter. Feed with an acid fertilizer after bloom. Keep roots cool with a thick layer of mulch.Pruning time: spring after flowering. Azaleas prefer light shade and well-drained, slightly acidic soil, rich with organic matter. Dig hole two times the width of the container. If the soil appears too sandy or is heavy clay, amend with organic matter. Remove from the container and place in hole so that the top of the root ball is slightly above the ground level. Backfill. Water. Mulch. Keep moist until established. The Coronado Red Azalea is a fantastic spring-blooming rhododendron. This selection produces glowing red blooms in mid-spring. Watch and be amazed as these blossoms emerge in considerable numbers every year in late spring, and transform the appearance of this shrub for weeks to follow. Evergreen foliage emerges as a light green before maturing to a glossy emerald hue. In Fall the foliage will turn a bronze-red for the winter. The Coronado Red Azalea is a dwarf variety and matures to 3-4 feet tall by 3-4 feet wide. Therefore, it naturally won’t engulf your landscape. Rather, it tends to grow in a compact, dense spread. Try it in a container, hedge, mass planting, border, or mixed bed.
