Florida Foliage

Abelia Grandiflora Francis Mason - Live Plants - Flowering Deer Resistant Butterfly Attracting Shrub

This evergreen shrub features arching branches with lacy yellow foliage. Its bell-shaped flowers bloom from early summer to fall and are lilac pink in color. Ideally used as a border or screen. This low-maintenance evergreen needs a regular water schedule to ensure the growth of a mature root system. The first year of growth requires watering weekly. After the mature root system is established, watering is needed occasionally, except during a drought, watering is needed regularly. Shear annually to maintain desired shape. Francis Mason is an evergreen to semi-evergreen Abelia variety - depending on hardiness zone & planting location with very attractive foliage colors. New growth is a bright lemon yellow, with coloration changing with maturity to a variegated dark green with yellow edging. Full sun locations will allow for this plant to display its best color, but will perform very well in full sun to partially sunny spots. Bell / trumpet shaped blooms are light pink & white in color, and are seen starting in early summer all the way through to mid fall in most areas. Blooms have a light, but very noticeable fragrance and are highly regarded by both hummingbirds and butterflies. Commonly used as a colorful flowering hedge, foreground & foundation plantings, and looks especially nice when neatly trimmed and planted around the base of larger trees such as Crape Myrtle, Holly, or similar species.
